Generally before the start of the procedure for tattoo removal, physicians prescribe some non-aspirin product. Anesthesia may also be given, if desired.

Laser tattoo removal

In this process, high intensity laser light is passed through the tattoo pigment. There are several different lasers with different color ink like alexandrite, ruby etc…but generally the “Q-switched” laser is used that send short but intense pulse of light. This laser light directly penetrates the skin, targeting the tattoo pigment without damaging the surrounding healthy cells.

As the laser have short pulse of light, it takes many pulses to spread over the entire tattoo area. Though the treatment time depend on the size of tattoo but it takes approximately thirty minutes in general. Its major benefit is that it does no harm to healthy skin and only damages the cells covering the specific tattoo segment or particular area.

Precautions to be taken after treatment

After giving the treatment, the doctor will ask you to take care of the specific area. Take the required precautions to avoid it ending into pigmentation problem or scar.

You might feel like having a wind or sunburn after the treatment, so better cover the area till it heals up. The tattoo removal process starts after the treatment as laser only disrupt the cells affected by tattoo pigment. After few days or weeks, the tattoo pigment will start dissolving and shall move out of the body.

In some cases skin rashes or reddening of skin can be there. As the tattoo pigments start dissolving, it leaves the red marks on the skin but they last for only few days and are considered part of the healing process.
